Project: King’s Promise Advisor

Project Highlights

Convincing Students + Parents

People need employment prospects after graduating, even if schools aren’t “career colleges.” I’m helping King’s figure out the marketing angle to convince students (and their parents) that this college is the place to cultivate their futures.

Positioning for Employers

Most employers don’t know the difference between UWO and “King’s at UWO.” Part of my job as an advisor is help the college build a brand around its graduates to underpin all placements and networking efforts in the future.

A Direct Marketing Strategy

70% of King’s student population comes from London itself. I proposed a marketing strategy that would educate teachers directly and put the brochures right into their hands. Teachers are the gatekeepers for the students, after all.

The Project Results

Joe Henry, the Dean of Students at King’s, has launched the program to critical acclaim in the community.

I’ve met with Joe and the rest of the alumni advisory board several times to help massage launguage and web design around the launch itself, as well as how to position the program for employers in Ontario.

I’m looking forward to talking shop with the team for a marketing strategy in the near future!

How I became a content designer (or UX writer)

How I became a content designer (or UX writer)

I never thought of myself as any kind of designer. If you’d asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have said “video game journalist.” With a background in history I never expected to work in the tech industry, either. Yet now I’ve worked for two...

What is a UX content strategist?

A “UX content strategist,” more commonly called a “staff content designer,” is a fairly new user experience role, evolving alongside UX writing as a major component of the content design discipline. It can be a role on its own, but most commonly it just represents a...

Content design vs. content strategy: know the difference

What is a content designer?

Most people I speak with don’t understand what content designers actually are, and it’s no surprise. “Content” has become synonymous with the digital marketing industry, and “design” has become a ubiquitous term for visual work. I was guilty of it, too. I would refer...
